Well, if it's a brief taste of the to-be-revamped European air forces you want...

I based the character of Victoria Phoenix, a S-African hit-woman, off this photo:

Image

Which actually is (part of) a promo of the Ostfunk festival I picked up in Berlin. Incidentally, I have no idea who the lady in the picture actually is, but well, there ya go. Oh, and sorry for the crappy quality - my scanner isn't properly installed at the moment so I used a (cheap) digital camera.

Those aviator goggles are boss. Ms. Phoenix really should sport a pair of those.

From an article on bunker-busters:
There are also more exotic options, like the Rocket Balls (or more correctly, “kinetic fireball incendiaries”) developed for the Defense Threat Reduction Agency. A warhead would release a large number of these rubberised balls of rocket fuel; once ignited they bounce around at high speed, spreading out by going through doorways and other openings and raising the surrounding temperature to over a thousand degrees within seconds.
It's even got a pulpy name already. Holy shit.

Those would also be ideal in wreaking havoc on the insides of Soviet/American space stations.

These space-capable variants will be called Space Balls.

Is there anything special going on the the Arctic? Canadian and Russian drone subs and combat divers playing a cat-and mouse-game under the frozen ice?

I guess they could, although we'd have to find a reason why. It's probably a favourite hang-out of Soviet boomer subs, but otherwise the only thing in the Arctic is cold weather radar stations.

Not sure how to work this back in, but I'd really like to expand a bit on the fringe-y side of CSW. You know, the Incredible Tales stuff we had pre-crash: giant ants, the frickin' Nautilus and captain Nemo, the Washington D.C. street grid being based on some mystical pattern, Avalon and RAF pilots whose planes have suffered catastrophic electrical failures over the ocean being guided back to shore by the ghosts of dead pilots from the Battle of Britain. That sort of thing.

Sometimes you just can't make this shit up...

The HOOAH! bar is an energy bar created by the United States military in 1996. It was originally provided to military personnel packaged within a field ration, such as the Meal, Ready-to-Eat, Meal Cold Weather, or First Strike Ration. It is currently available on sale to the public.

The name comes from the word "hooah," a battle cry commonly used by American soldiers, also noting that Marines tend to prefer the word "Oohrah!" on the packaging. The bar originally had "HOOAH!" and the US Army seal on one side and "OOO-RAH!" and the Marine Corps seal on the other; the new wrappers have both logos on the same side. The commercial version features the United States roundel instead.

The military HooAH! Bar comes in apple-cinnamon, chocolate, cran-raspberry, peanut butter and raspberry flavors. The smaller First Strike bars (provided in the concentrated First Strike Ration) come in Apple-Cinnamon, Cran-Raspberry, Chocolate, Raspberry and Mocha flavors. The civilian HOOAH! bar only comes in Chocolate Crisp, Peanut Butter, and Apple-Cinnamon flavors. It is also available as an energy drink, subtitled "soldier fuel."
Dear god, a part of me wants to hybridize this stuff with those e-meds Moby came up with, but my saner side thinks that would be a fucking awful and terrible idea.

It also has a website!

I remember basing my SOTS HOOAH! bars, made by Lance Corporal Henriksen (!), on that same bar. You can imagine a commercial like how that KOOL-AID guy bursts out of the wall, except with a badass Recon Gyrene dropkicking a terrurist in the face while chewing a fistfull of HOOAH tactical snacks!

I wonder, is there a story or snapshot that could define CSW in its nuts and bolts? I recall vaguely you summarizing it up somewhere, but now it's gone of my head and I was just wandering what CSW is all about. The threads you have really confuse me, as I don't have a foundation of what this universe is.

And if there is no intro story, maybe you can make one, with all the main craziness packed into one delicious plate!

The timeline is always a good place to start, as it helps you wrap your head around the sometimes subtle changes Siege has made to OTL. Same goes for the U.S. and Soviet leaders articles.

WHY ISN'T THIS IN CSW ALREADY

Meet the "Beetle".

Built by Jered Industries in Detroit for General Electric's ominous — and very Metal Gear-sounding — Nuclear Materials and Propulsion Operation division, the Beetle was a mechanical terror designed for the Air Force Special Weapons Centre, initially to service and maintain a planned fleet of atomic-powered Air Force bombers. According to declassified Air Force reports, work began on the "mech" in 1959, and it was completed in 1961.

Because the Beetle was first conceived to fix aircraft engines that would be soaked in radiation, it had to be nuclear-proof. Because these would be big aircraft, with large parts that were high off the ground, the Beetle had to be big as well. And because the actual duties it was to perform would require a great deal of precision and finesse, the Beetle was given two arms with pincers for "hands", which is where the "Beetle" name originates.

All of which explain why the Beetle was a colossal 19 feet long, 12 feet wide, 11 feet high and weighed a ground-shaking 77 tons. The pilot was shielded by an inch of steel armour on the outside of the unit, half-an-inch inside and a minimum of 12 inches of lead plating around the cabin, which would keep him shielded from all but the most intense blasts of radiation. On top of all that, the cockpit glass was 23 inches thick, and was made up of seven individual panes of leaded glass.

Powered by a 500hp engine, the Beetle could, on a hard, flat surface, reach a top speed of…eight miles per hour. Any faster – not that it could go much faster – and the vibrations damaged some of its finer instrumentation and mechanics. That's painfully slow, yes, but speed had been traded off for power, the robot's bulk meaning it had 85,000 pounds of pull in its arms, strong enough to either punch clean through a thick concrete wall or, should the need arise, grab a wall and tear it clean off a building or bunker.
