Random Ideas (Input Requested!)

Random Ideas

The purpose of this thread is primarily to act as a sort of testing ground for Artemis and me, to introduce random ideas and bounce them off you guys. Personally I tend to come up with a lot of whimsical ideas that I'm not altogether sure would work in the setting of CSW. Instead of not bothering to post them, I'll drop them in here and you can then say what you think.

We're not the only people who can post ideas here however: you can too! I know that Shroom keeps pestering me for a 'Megalith' type of place, and certainly Mobius has all kinds of interesting ideas concerning CSW, so I figure it might be useful to have a place where people can contribute ideas that they think would work really well in this universe (I don't care if your idea actually makes sense or whether it's a 'rule of cool' type of gimmick- let's hear it anyway!)

To kick off the thread, what I personally think would be pretty neat is the introduction of the Kamov Ka-22 (or a similar rotodyne successor) as a personal transport for top tier Soviet generals:

It needs to look angrier and its wings could be a bit swept back, and it must be as big as a Spruce Moose... but otherwise, it's pretty cool. Maybe its cockpit could look vaguely Hind-like.

The USSR needs that awesome triangular-shaped tri-chopper, that HUEG one, and arm it with LASERS!

Hey, the Chinese already have Stonehenge and are waging a low-intensity border conflict of epic scale against the Indians, so yeah!

There is always the (never realized) successors Ka-34 and Ka-35...

No wishy-washy multinational cooperative ISS for CSW... Behold-- Space Station Freedom!

Image

Completed in the mid-1990s, Space Station Freedom functions as an orbiting repair shop for satellites, an assembly point for spacecraft, an observation post for astronomers, a microgravity laboratory for scientists, and a microgravity factory for companies. It's one of the biggest civilian stations out there, and as American as can be. Hell, there'd probably Coca Cola advertisements on the sides...

Meet Objekt 754, better known as the T-100 Autotank. Remote operated by the SICKLE mainframe, an experimental division of T-100 and other automated vehicles guard the Mount Narodnaya special facility, where one of SICKLE's primary brain rooms is located. During the Russian Crisis the Ultramilitants made several attempts to breach Mount Narodnaya, during which the T-100 and its automated cousins exacted a horrible toll on attacking forces. Several variants are known to exists, including at least one where the main 105mm electrothermal gun has been swapped for a heavy laser cannon powered by a radioisotope generator similar to those mounted in Soviet deep-space probes. It is the expectation of many Western analysts that the T-100 and successor vehicles will be seen with increasing frequency on the battlefields of the 21st century.

I'm curious as to what other types of T-100's exist. Care to share with us some of your ideas, Siege?

Well, here's what I have so far:

T-100 - Primary armament is a 105mm electrothermal cannon, secondary a 7.62mm coaxial gun
T-100K - Command variant, carries a SICKLE command subnode plus antennas, radio- and laserlinks
T-100L - Laser tank variant armed with a heavy 10 megawatt laser cannon, powered by radioisotope generator, no secondary weapons
T-100D-1 - Drone carrier, UAV variant, no primary armament but carries four mid-sized UAVs
T-100D-2 - Drone carrier, APC variant, no primary armament but carries a number of 'Kontakt' crab-drones
T-100-PTS - Logistics vehicle, equipped with a generator and load-carrying spaces as well as a small crane
T-100S - Self-propelled artillery variant, carries a 152mm autoloading howitzer

Canada pushing forward with the Avero Arrow not being scrapped and having decendants would be a Nice Idea.

Yeah, I intend to use the Avro and possibly its descendants for the European air forces.

I think it would be cool if CSW's UK used a bad-assed version of SKYNET for some purpose. Just so you can toss around 'SKYNET!' and make people go "whuh? huh?!" for the lulz.

Perhaps as a quantum-key encrypted nanocommunications array or something! :ugeek:

I have to say that I like the name "Paradigm Secure Communications". Can't really use "Skynet" as a name though, it raises too many obvious questions :).

Behold:

The AH-72 Osprey twin-engine attack tiltrotor aircraft. I was going to delete the Osprey from CSW because as a troop carrier it's a sodding waste of resources, but then Sheppard at SDN helpfully provided this picture and well, just look at it! It's magnificent! It doesn't carry troops, but it does carry a bucketload of weapons: a 7.62mm Minigun pod, Hellfires, Hydra rocket pods, Sidewinders, and who knows what else.

I don't know much about Russian helicopters, but the Hind series is still kicking around, right?

They're definitely still around, although by now there's probably a Hind II in service.

I recently bought and read My Tank Is Fight!, a book which is a veritable well of inspiration for kooky ideas and sinister superweapons. One of the most interesting I found in it was the Von Braun space station, and the idea that it might have served as an 'orbital führerbunker'. As the book put it:
My Tank Is Fight! wrote:"Perhaps the final act of Hitler's drama would have played out not in a bunker beneath Berlin, but above our planet. Imagine the syphilitic madman launching himself to his final redoubt - his Space Eagle's Nest - and then shooting himself in the temple with a pistol as his empire unravels beneath him."
Now I imagine this is too far out even for CSW to incorporate fully but it's so awesome an idea that I'm tempted to use it anyway...

Yeah, but it's almost official lore (at least between Siege and I) that Hitler died when he faced Stalin in a one-on-one sorceror's battle at the gates of Berlin, in which Hitler met his demise by being blown to pieces and having his organs scattered all over the nine vectors to become prized Nazi magical artifacts.

Nah, probably not. The yardstick for what goes and what doesn't in CSW is what we (Artemis & I) consider plausible-sounding. There's still a lot of far-fetched ideas floating around (giant atomic ants!), but the Braun station is pretty suspension-of-disbelief-breaking. Besides, a Nazi space station changes too much about the post-WW2 world for it to jive with the setting.

What I do intend on incorporating as a reunification of Germany sometime in the 2010's, maybe during or immediately after the Second Secret War. It would shake up the status quo in Europe pretty nicely; plus the breakdown of the Iron Curtain might kindle a few conflicts here and there, and I feel reunification would happen sooner or later anyway.
