A Note on Officer Demographics
Percentage-wise, members of Noble households have a well above average enlistment rate in the Navy (and the military in general). Nobles serving in the military are almost always officers and tend to rise through the ranks quicker than common recruits, making up the bulk of the flag officers (this is also because of the fact that flag officers that do well tend to be let into the nobility). It is rare to meet a member of a Noble House older than 30 T years holding a rank lower than Commander or to find a High Admiral or higher ranking officer which does not have a noble title.
Naval Command Units
Element-Any Individual Warship, be it a Corvette or a Dreadnought. This is divided into three tiers, Light Elements (Corvettes and Frigates), Medium Elements (Destroyers and Cruisers) and Wall Elements (Battleships and Dreadnoughts).
Squadron-Four Warships of any class, all of the same category. Squadrons are classified by their tier (Light, Medium and Wall). Commanded by a Junior Commodore (Light), Senior Commodore (Medium) or High Commodore (Wall)
Flotilla-Four squadrons of light or medium assets. Commanded by a Senior Commodore (Light) or High Commodore (medium). A Medium flotilla is considered comparable in seniority to a squadron of Wall Assets.
Group-Four Flotillas of Light and Medium assets. Commanded by a High Commodore (Light) or a Junior Admiral (Medium). A group of Light assets is Comparable to a squadron of Wall assets. The highest organizational group which Corvettes are let into.
Task Force-Four Wall Squadrons. Commanded by a Junior Admiral.
Armada-The main organizational unit of the Novan Navy, composed of 24 Groups or Task Forces. Commanded by an Admiral. While there are variations due to specialist armadas, hastily made re-enforcements with what was available, the most common configuration is this…
16 Groups of Frigates (1,024 Ships)
4 Groups of Medium Assets (256 Ships)
4 Task Forces of Wall assets (64 Ships)
1,344 Ships in total.
Fleet-A force of Four Armadas commanded by a High Admiral. Fleets are given specific numbers. By Tradition, the First Armada of any fleet will have Dreadnoughts instead of Battleships under nominal conditions. Fleets are numbered (1st Fleet, 2nd fleet and so on)
