Cameroon Pact Announces Defence System, Withdraws From Free Congo

Image
CGI demonstration of proposed orbital defence platforms

The Cameroon Pact has announced its intentions to construct a comprehensive strategic defence system. "The proposed system will comprise of ground fortifications with weapon emplacements, strategic and tactical missile silos, armed satellites in Earth orbit, anti-orbital defence batteries, and early warning systems in the Earth-Moon lagrangian points," said Cameroon Pact Authority Chief Defence Specialist Ashia Armani in a public address. The Pact Authority Defence Sector has claimed that it can no longer militarily contest the status of the Free Congo, and with that the Cameroon Pact Authority has withdrawn all of it's forces from the Free Congo. Despite this as well as the withdrawal of the blockade, the Cameroon Pact Authority has not formally recognised the Free Congo and has sealed off its border with the nascent polity.

Pan-Asia Invades Australia

Image

After releasing uncontested evidence of Australian funding and support for militants in Afghanistan and Pakistan, the Pan-Asian Federation has invaded the Australian province of New South Wales with overwhelming force. 2 Planetary Assault Vehicles and 25 Assault Ships were able to clear a path through Australian air and orbital defences for an orbital attack force of 25 Dropships containing 50 Heavy Battle Tanks, At least a couple dozen of their Nanosuit Infantry according to reports on the ground, and 125 Battlesuit units. This ground invasion force is currently laying siege to the capital of Canberra.

Blockade Accompanies Invasion

Image

Reports are also coming in of military and civilian shipping coming under attack from small submarines operating in the waters surrounding Australia. While reports indicate the design used is a common pattern, the timing and spread of the attacks mean that they are likely to be Pan-Asian, which the Federation has so far neither confirmed nor denied. The number of subs operating has been estimated to be more than 25, and possibly up to 50.

Australia Starts Building Torchship

Image

The Eco-Technate of Australia has commenced the construction of an interstellar travelling torchship, presumably to the Proxima Centuari system of which they recently recieved extensive data from via their Sparrow interstellar probe. With the invasion of New South Wales by Pan-Asian forces, the future of the ship remains up in the air.

Ahmedabad In Flames

Image

The city of Ahmedabad in the Pan-Asian Federation was rocked by violence as secessionist militants targeted supply and relief convoys heading through the transport hub towards the Pan-Asian forces attempting to restore authority in the troubled territories of Pakistan and Afghanistan. Outposts and checkpoints in rural areas were first attacked in order to draw security forces out of urban areas and away from military motorpools and commandeered trainyards which were subsequently attacked by larger militant assaults. This assault has hampered Pan-Asian attempts to reliably resupply and relieve their forces attempting to regain control in the disputed territories.

Documentary Spreads Through Pan-Asia

It is believed that one of the major motivating factors for the recent unrest in the Pan-Asian Federation has been an documentary film being clandestinely distributed among the poor and unemployed. Purporting to document the atrocities and excesses of the ruling class of the Pan-Asian Federation, the footage has generated much anger among those sections of the Pan-Asian Federation who feel they are seen as little more than human resources.

Demonstrations in Marispatrian Cities Against Increased Militarism

Demonstrations by anti-militarist and pacifist groups against the percieved current trend in Marispatrian politics for increasing military intervention took place in major cities across the Union. The various pressure groups and citizen's councils taking part also voiced their concern for the Union's "strong arm" diplomatic tactics. To quote a demonstrator; "We have been able in the past to offer peaceable means for settling disputes, what has happened?"

We are deeply troubled by the recent actions undertaken by the Pan-Asians, which have further aggravated an already unstable situation. Not only is their invasion of the Australian mainland illegal under common treaty, it creates a disastrous humanitarian crisis. Military action must not take precedence over diplomatic solutions. We urge the Federation to cease all illegal activities and withdraw from Australian soil, or risk interplanetary action. The solar system will not allow this to stand, and will take appropriate action if the government does not restore the lands it has taken. Listen to reason, and cease this ugly militarism.

Short excerpt from the proceedings of the Congress of the Congolese Socialist Union. Platform allegiance is marked on

Lantier (Travailleur): I do not see a reason to reduce the powers of the presidency. If anything, the example that comrade Lumumba set forth showed the importance and necessity of the position!

Bapupa (Autonome): I'm sure it is only those in your group who view his accomplishments with such glowing endorsement. Lumumba used his position to make extraordinary decisions with out consulting the Council of the Republic.

I would naturally argue that if anything, we need to return more power to the local councils.

Lantier (Travailleur): We need these kinds of positions if we are to deal with the threats to the Greater Congo! How else could we have been able to make a quick response to the Cameroon Pact's aggression against Free Congo? If we left that up to the councils it would have ended with the Cameroon Pact entering into Brazzaville triumphant.

Mputu (Anarchiste): The construction of these seemingly bourgeois structures was a mistake in the first place. Why do we worry about these political structures? They're only an expression of the state.

Amin (Syndicaliste): Why not a compromise? Greater power to the Chairman of the Council of the Republic and lessening those of the presidency? This way we would have a collective leadership in the form of the Council of the Republic.

Okello (Travailleur): I can speak for the people of the Ugandan Socialist Republic when I say we have been appreciative towards the current structure. With out it, I Doubt we would have achieved the degree of development we have had over the past decades.

Kimathi (Travailleur): The same for those of us in Kenya. We have seen the benefits of this structure when we had to deal with the Madvert infestation in our ports.

Said (Anarchiste): And yet here in Dar Es Salaam, we still have to worry about these damned things piling on to the Pan-Asian Ships and causing a mess in the streets they pass through. If it weren't for the reluctance of the federal government, the people could have dealt with this directly!

Ntaryamira (Autonome): I think it would be greatly beneficial to return more power to the farm syndicates rather than the current policy of planning by each republic's farm ministries.

Kadenge (Communiste): How could we deal with the redundancies? Surely this many duplicated bodies would be a problem and conflict. We need to evenly distribute our resources- this is only possible by fewer bodies.

....

Lantier (Travailleur): As General-Secretary I move to start a vote on the matter of the Free Congo

...

(unanimous vote for accepting the Free Congo into the GPCR)

Lantier (Travailleur): On the matter of the office of the presidency.

(Travailleur platform loses to the combined votes of the other platforms

...

Lantier (Travailleur) Returning executive power to the position of Chairman of the Council of the Republic

(Votes from Communiste, rogue votes from Travailleur, Syndicaliste, and Autonome in favor. Entirety of Anarchiste opposed. Vote passes).

The brilliant African sun beat down fiercely on the head of Cameroon Pact Authority Chief Defence Specialist Ashia Armani, but she was so wrapped up in thought that she hardly noticed. Static tests of the nuclear fission engine for the Goblin Supersonic Low Altitude Missile (SLAM) had been a striking success, and now the design was to tested with dummy warheads for the first time. Warheads plural because the Goblin was technically a missile bus rather than an actual missile, but making them recoverable had been calculated to not be worth the effort, and so the things were designed to crash into the nearest target of opportunity once they had expended their warhead magazines.

Ashia's bald pate was glittering with a hint of sweat and wrinkled with concentration as she finalised the path for the flight portion of the test on a datapad, before she scurried over to the nearby bunker, a Pact soldier automatically saluting her with perfect precision as she opened the secure door and entered. Holograms and status readouts glowed in the relative gloom. Behind her, the bunker door automatically closed with a quiet but very definite clang.

"Are we cleared to proceed?" She asked the shadowy figures clustered around a lambent scanner table, upon which equations and diagrams flickered and danced.

"Clearance has been received from Command. All technical specialists report status nominal," replied a spindly figure to one side of the table "all that is required is the go".

Ashia nodded "And no wonder. The pan-Solar situation is looking grim. Pulling out of the Congo was a necessary step in preserving our future, even if the Transhuman Army rank and file as well as some of the public didn't like it. I don't like it. But we cannot be chasing after a small bunch of upstart secessionists, even if they happen to have the support of our enemies, while at the same time trying to fend off whatever other part of the Solar system sees fit to attack us. So it is my duty as an Official of the Pact to issue this order; commence the testing!"

"Yes sir!"

Successful Test of New Pact Weapon in Chad

The Cameroon Pact has successfully completed dummy-firing tests of it's new Goblin Supersonic Low Altitude Missile (SLAM), which it says will form part of the new defence network announced earlier this year. The missile can carry up to 14 warheads each with a "dial-a-yield" range of between 10Kt to 10Mt, which are launched upwards in a parabolic arc in order to grant the SLAM time to escape the blast radius. The Cameroon Pact has also expressed an interest in selling an export version for open market, although it seems that anyone taking them up on such an offer may have to supply their own warheads, as the Cameroon Pact are world-renowned experts at fission bomb miniaturisation. Sources within the Pact suggest that the Defence Sector is definitely interested in a live test of the weapon system. It is unknown precisely where the Cameroon Pact would carry out their testing, but speculation by defence analysts has suggested somewhere on the surface of Mars or Venus.

Two senators converse over the direction of the Union, worrying that the institution they once supported has lost its way.

(Senator 1 - Ahanu Dabir): The consequences will be enormous...

(Senator 2 - Jolan Ester): What difference does it make? The Union we once supported no longer exists. Influence is bought, corruption runs rampant...what little hope remains can only be found in the councils. The Senate and People's Congress are swamped with matters of little significance, and can only be roused to action when the military pushes for an armed solution-

(Senator 1): What of the soldiers? How loyal would you say they are?

(Senator 2): It's too early to tell...the Chancellor has Tsaro wrapped around her finger, and he's High Command. The people wish to restore the Union, not tear it down.

(Senator 1): Any luck with Cyril and the delegates?

(Senator 2): He was interested, and wishes to speak with us directly as soon as possible. The Marisians are undecided, but then they have a lot on their plate as it is.

(Senator 1): I sense a deeper conflict is on the horizon - the Chancellor seems determined to remain in office regardless of whether or not she wins reelection. She seems intent on using the Federation as an excuse for broader powers.

(Senator 2): The Senate would never allow it.

(Senator 1): I'm not so sure...the opposition's been silent ever since Australia was invaded. I'm not quite satisfied with their intentions.

Office of the Presidency of the Republic of Texas

TOP SECRET

To: Cameroon Pact Authority Chief Defence Specialist, Ashia Armani

It has been suggested by analysts within your own department that you may consider testing your new Supersonic Low Altitude Missile system on Mars. I shall both advise and warn you against such a course for Texas shall in no way tolerate the use of Mars as a testing ground for superweapons, especially from a polity that has no actual sovereign presence on Mars.

I have no objections to your weapons programme or your testing of it but such tests must not be carried out on Mars or in it's airspace.

MESSAGE STARTS

Mars is under siege. The boots of imperialists stamp his soil. Their settlements pockmark his body. And their megalomaniac terraforming ravages his face. They believe him unable to resist their predations.

But it is a sad error in judgement to mistake the Red Planet for weak. The aggressors have come heedless and disrespectful unto the Temple of Mars Ultor, and now they will pay for their lack of vision. They will know it when Mars rises up to throw off the shackles of imperialist slavery. They may not wish to believe it, but there will come a time when they must. And they will know it when they gaze upon the face of the Lord of War unbound, and he will sunder them for their arrogance.

We have seen the future of the Red Planet. The ancient canals will flow with the blood of those who oppose us.

One Vision, One Purpose!

MESSAGE ENDS

Innovative Developments Sweep Coastal Cities
5/3/15
By: Tshida Raamon

Ever since its integration into the Union, Oman has experienced a rapid progression in scientific and architectural innovation, the rare likes of which few have dared to dream of – much less seen. Utilizing its own progress in matters of social and political governance, the ruling governorate has put substantial effort into extending the process of modernization throughout the state, referring to the councils on matters affecting the local population. The past decade has seen an explosion in coastal development, especially in areas surrounding major population centers. These cities have borne the brunt of the push for modernization, with some criticizing the move as being a result of heavy lobbying and favoritism between the city councils and governor Aseel. A spokesbeing dismissed these accusations in a statement, chiding those who would “use cultural and social mores as a weapon,” rather than the much-needed tools they can be when “bridging factional differences and lifestyles.” Governor Aseel made clear his intention to expand upon the work started by his predecessors the moment it became clear he had won the tri-govern race in 2105, and again before an audience of supporters and dignitaries from the Capital during his inauguration.

“The Omani have reason to celebrate, for today marks the beginning of our state’s reemergence on the interplanetary scene. We will tackle society’s pursuits while striving also for its betterment. Future generations will look on our work and marvel at the wonder we left them.” Ten years on, the governor appears to have made well on his promise. Gleaming edifices of the finest material (a well kept state secret) shine throughout the day and night, providing a natural light source that make illumination lamps seem gaudy and dim in comparison. Holographic images hover over and around stadiums, sky scrapers, clubs, and street corners, churning out a constant barrage of goods and services.

Image
Mughsail, on the state’s southernmost strip of coastline, has seen extraordinary advancements in the fields of scientific research and architectural innovation

The last oil rigs and refineries have been demolished, with state of the art solar and resource collectors left standing in their place. The last of a few states to officially abolish its currency, the councils have at last begun the process of finally phasing out the rial, the likes of which many say contributed to the rise and development of some of the remaining private interest groups within the state and the Union as a whole. The State Senate, previously in what seemed to be a perpetual state of gridlock, has finally reorganized along lines friendlier to what many deem the “democratic process”, allowing for greater decentralization amongst the regional and local councils and an end to the bureaucratic method.

Things don’t appear to be slowing down, either. Cites along the coast, such as Mughsail and Barka, have witnessed a complete transformation in both their function and in their image, changes which would be unrecognizable ten to twenty years ago. While still a bastion of moneyed interests and lobbyers, even these aspects of Omani society will be gone by the close of the 22nd century’s second decade, bringing it into line with Union regulations. While much work remains to be done, the past ten years have been friendly to the state, region, and the Union as a whole, bringing with it greater and better technologies, capabilities, and a strengthened need for solar expansion. As more and more polities begin entering the far reaches of our known system (either through state-mandate or individual incentive), Oman and the rest of Marispatria will look beyond towards an interconnected series of settlements and navigation systems, bringing the Union to even the most isolated regions of the solar system.

New Economic Plan Calls for Industrial Expansion

Ares - In a joint statement, the Office of Economic Planning, Ministry of Industry, and Ministry of Energy announced today an massive expansion in Tharsian industrial and energy collection capabilities. "With the regular increases in population and the recent civil engineering projects proposed by the Ministry of Industry, it has become readily apparent that a greater exploitation of Mars' resources is necessary in order to further support our long-term goals," said OEP spokesbeing Yūnus Shen.

While details have yet to be released, early information shows that the expansion in industry is to be focused on the construction of several new superdeep borehole mines, as well as an expansion in Tharsis' nuclear plant grid. While rumors have been circulating of potential asteroid mining operations, Shen has not confirmed or denied the allegations.

Office of the Presidency of the Republic of Texas

TOP SECRET

To: the Pacific Union, the Axis of Borelia and the Confederate States of America

As all of you are well aware, the global and solar political situation is becoming increasingly unstable and dangerous. The global terrorist threat only grows with each passing year. The LSF and the Diversity Union pose a deadly threat to all the nations of North America and their continuous attacks against Texas and the CSA are a testament to this fact. Terrorism and the policy of some states to support terrorism has also brought the entire world to the brink of war as evidenced by Australia's support for terrorism in Afghanistan and the response taken against them by Pan-Asia. Now Pan-Asia and Marispatria, the two leading world powers, stand on the verge of all out war.

As dangerous as a threat it poses, terrorism is only a part of a much wider and worrying trend of increasing instability, both on Earth and in the wider solar system. Divisions between nations are becoming evermore apparent and concrete as ideological lines are drawn and sides are taken. It is no secret that our four nations are viewed with suspicion and hostility by the Extropian and Neo-Socialist nations and polities. With each passing year these two ideological alliances grow in both size and strength. Even more worrying is the convergence of Neo-Socialsim and Extropianism via the Interplanetary Council for the Revolution (ICR), of which the LSF is a signatory member.

With all of this taken into account, it now makes increasing sense for our four nations to consider an alliance of our own. An alliance that guarantees the peace, security and stability of our four nations through a policy of mutual defence and mutual assistance.

I also ask that until this proposal is agreed upon by all parties, that we all communicate on this matter in absolute secrecy and confidentiality.

I do hope that you will consider this proposal for such an alliance would be to the benefit of all our nations.

President of the Republic of Texas

Michael Bauer

The Chancellor converses with a delegation of senators, many of whom remain concerned with how the situation surrounding Pan-Asia's wars with Australia have been handled.

(Chancellor Latona): I am well acquainted with your demands, senator, and believe me when I say the situation is far more severe than you give it credit for. The Federation has amassed an army that threatens the very stability of the Union, the world, and the solar system – and I would be doing this nation and its citizens a disservice if I overlooked it.

(Senator Ahanu): We aren’t overlooking anything; we’re merely concerned with the recent statements emanating from the Chancellery about Pan-Asia –

(Chancellor Latona): The Pan-Asians have been fomenting anarchy throughout the solar system! The interplanetary community will not stand for it, and neither will Marispatria.

(Senator Ahanu): With all due respect Chancellor, we simply don’t see a need for saber-rattling during a time of war! The Chancellery isn’t defending the Union, it’s destabilizing it!

(Senator Benítez): The Falkland delegates have been in constant contact with our representatives. They’re worried that the Senate’s resolution on the matter will rupture any remaining ties we may with the Federationists – if passed.

(Chancellor Latona): I assure you, we are pursuing diplomatic solutions. But the Pan-Asians have to meet us halfway. It is unfortunate that we’re in this predicament, but if the Premier refuses to communicate with us…well, that’s an issue for another day. I trust we’ll burn that bridge when we come to it.

(Senator Jolan): What is the military’s role in this?

(Chancellor Latona): I’m afraid I don’t understand…?

(Senator Yoon): We are concerned with the growing ties between your administration and High Command.

(Chancellor Latona): High Command has little influence over the affairs of this Union, senator.

(Senator Jolan): Your relationship with General Tsaro says otherwise.

(Chancellor Latona): I will not have this meeting devolve into lesser matters. If this delegation insists on pursuing hearsay I will have its license revoked and the committee disbanded.

(Senator Ahanu): We do not wish to tread on any toes here, Chancellor. If our suspicions are, indeed, unfounded, then we apologize. Regardless, the people’s perception of the country’s direction remains. This Union was founded on civility and a respect for the people. We represent their interests, not those of the Chancellery.

(Senator Yoon): The Opposition’s compliance with recent events will change if you insist on continuing your present course, Chancellor.

(Chancellor Latona): Your concern has been noted. Now please, you will have to excuse me –

(Senator Ahanu): Of course. Thank you for agreeing to meet with us.

(Chancellor Latona): You’re quite welcome. For all our differences, we share a common goal – keeping and preserving the peace. The Union is strong, and I trust we’ll manage to find a solution favorable to all concerned parties. We needn’t resort to parliamentary measures to enact our will on the matter.

(Senator Jolan): We’ll consider relaxing our position on the Federation if you’ll agree to finding a peaceful, diplomatic solution to the crisis.

(Chancellor Latona): You have my word.

SOLAR SYSTEM

New Martian Colonies Declared

Image

The ongoing terraformation of the Red Planet has been accompanied by a boom in settlement as the atmosphere has become breathable and oceans have formed. Colonisation has been concentrated along the new coastlines, and at least three areas have become heavily populated enough to declare themselves sovereign entities. The one everybody talks about is the Tharsian Commonwealth, said to be founded by a coalition of Extropians from across the Solar system. Less known are the Warmachine and the Watchmen of Humanus, although both have been the subject of rumour.

Antarctica Establishes Lunar Colony

Image

The Antarctic Coalition continues to rival the Extropians in being the leading colonisers, with the establishment of their first lunar colony based in the central nearside highlands. With the Solar system due to hear back from the Antarctic colony expedition to Wolf 359 next year and the ongoing development of the Antarctic Martian colony,, the Coalition looks set to be the first polity to ensure their legacy in perpetuity.

Sabotage & Destabilisation In Texan Mars Colony

The Texan colony at Olympus Mons on Mars has been targeted in attacks on power plants and agricultural facilities. Surface targets were subject to long-range mortar attacks from beyond the colony's borders, and several underground greenhouses were found to have pests introduced into their crop. These attacks come at the same time as reports of the Texan terraformation fleet being under attack have come into news offices around the Solar system - the assailants are generally believed to lurk around the Martian mountains and cliffsides with small but powerful surface-to-air weaponry. Leaflets and propaganda-bots extolling the virtues of an unterraformed Mars have been turning up all over the Red Planet, also claiming that the Republic of Texas seeks to use its terraformation of the planet as an excuse to claim dominion over the planet as a whole.

AMERICAS

CSA Citizens Vote Texan

Image
The Texan flag was raised in many towns and cities as news of the result spread over the infosphere

The results of a referendum in the CSA states of Louisiana and Mississippi have been completely gathered, and the citizens of those states have voted to become a part of the Republic of Texas by a landslide. The local governments of the states concerned have already started making preparations for the changeover.

Diversity Union Claim Sovereign Territory, Invade CSA

Image
Diversity Union militants standing guard during their takeover of Richmond, Virginia

The Diversity Union has claimed the CSA states of Kentucky and Tennessee as their sovereign territory after the CSA government effectively lost control over them. They followed this up with an invasion of the CSA states of Virginia and North Carolina, where they have since been engaging CSA security forces. These actions have been condemned by all north American polities, and the uncontested territory held by the Diversity Union has had its borders closed by all concerned except for refugees leaving DU territory.

Military Coup D'etat In CSA

The armed forces of the Confederate States of America have seized power from the civilian government in a bloodless coup, citing the inability of the Confederate government to maintain control of its territories against an existential threat to national sovereignty.

AFRICA

Pact Early-Warning Satellites Deployed

Image

The Cameroon Pact has placed the first piece in its planned defence system, a network of linked early-warning observation satellites in the Earth-Sun Lagrangian points. With that network in place, the Cameroon Pact now has the capability to better prepare for assaults from beyond cislunar space.

EURASIA-PACIFIC

Australia Holes Pan-Asian Blockade, Establishes Aerospacial Superiority

Image

In response to the invasion of New South Wales by armed forces of the Pan-Asian Federation, the Eco-Technate of Australia has deployed units on active duty in all unoccupied territories, with the Navy having orders to seek and destroy any Pan-Asian submarines blockading the continent, as well as the Air and Space Forces clearing out the skies above.

Pan-Asia To Negotiate Cease-Fire With Australia

The Pan-Asian Federation have signalled their intentions to open up diplomatic channels with the Eco-Technate of Australia with a view to negotiating a cease-fire. It is currently unknown what effect the recent Australian assault on the Pan-Asian blockade will have on any dialogue.

Order Restored In Pakistan - Bangladesh Erupts

Pan-Asian forces have pushed back militants in their western regions into the mountain fastnesses of Afghanistan, setting back the nascent rebellion in that region. Meanwhile, the invasion of Australia appears to have been a spark for the powder keg of Bangladesh, with attacks on security, military, and government centers throughout the territory. In addition to the futility of spilling Bangladeshi blood in Australia, living conditions for the general population of the continent-spanning Federation have also been a sourc of friction. While the insurgencies have popular support, the Pan-Asian Federation as a whole seems to have weathered the recent internal crises fairly well, although many analysts warn that the rebellions still have plenty of potential for growth.

We would gladly enter into an alliance with our illustrious southern neighbours. We believe that Marispatria may be attempting to destabilise the north American continent by ignoring the LSF and DU, if they aren't funding them in the first place as some of our intelligence experts suspect.

To: President of the Axis of Borelia, Max Anyu

I would like to thank you for your prompt reply.

As soon as the governments of the Pacific Union and the CSA respond with their reactions to my proposal, then we can start the process of forming our alliance. Likewise, Texas also suspects that the LSF/Diversity Union is most likely supported by Marispatria. At some point, possibly as early as next year, Texas shall clear out the LSF/Diversity Union from all CSA territory. Texas shall never let the CSA sink into oblivion and our coming actions against the LSF/Diversity Union shall stand as a testament of our commitment to our friends and allies.

Once again our nation is under attack from an unforeseen enemy.

The recent acts of terrorism and sabotage on our Martian colony of Olympus Mons will not go unpunished and I promise that a full investigation shall be taken to establish who is behind these horrific and outrageous attacks. So far our intelligence sources have confirmed that the LSF and the Diversity Union are in no way responsible for the recent terrorist atrocities on Mars. Neither the LSF nor the Diversity Union have the ability to carry out attacks on the scale that we have seen on Mars and neither of these two terrorist groups has the ability to conduct operations on an interplanetary scale.

At the end of this year our investigation into this matter should be complete and upon it's completion my administration shall make public the results of this investigation.

I also promise that whoever is behind these attacks shall pay dearly for attacking our Republic and that they shall suffer the full consequences of their actions.

To: Watchmen of Humanus

The Republic of Texas seeks to establish diplomatic relations with the Watchmen of Humanus and to establish a working relationship between our two nations. Our two nations share many of the same ideals as well as a presence on Mars therefore it is in both our interests to work together to resolve our mutual problems and to develop mutual solutions that would be to the benefit of us both.

We have no land border with the DU-controlled areas, but if we can fly through your airspace we can send one of these:

A Fast Air Carrier, a recent Pacific Union Aerospace Division design. We think this would be an ideal time to test it under battlefield conditions. As you can see in the image it is large enough to carry the equivalent of several strategic bombers, and the wing volumes serve as massive fuel tankers. It is powered by two nuclear fission reactors using a plutonium-uranium fuel mix, with each one powerful enough to keep the aircraft aloft should the other fail. If both reactors fail, the engines are designed to take fuel from the wing tanks, which should in most situations give enough time for a powered landing in water. The whole aircraft is covered in aerodynamic armour plating of a classified design.

What do you think, Mr President?

To: The Pan-Asian Federation

We encourage a return to a peaceable solution between Pan-Asia and Australia, and we commend the Federation for its willingness to engage in talks. The sooner we resolve this crisis, the better, as it has destabilized an already unstable situation. The Federation must return the lands it has taken to the Technate, and provide reparations for the damage it has caused. It should also withdraw from Venusian territory and cease all reckless acts of militarism. Lastly, the government must heed the demands of its people if it is satisfy their needs. We will not tolerate a continuation of Pan-Asian aggression, whether it be at home or abroad.

To: The Tharsian Commonwealth

We would like to extend a hand of fellowship to our Marisian comrades, the Tharsian Commonwealth. We wish to establish formal ties with your settlement, and contribute to its development and defense. It is our hope that Mars can be settled without conflict, and we believe a connection between our two colonies will help further this goal. We share a common vision, that of openness and camaraderie for all - regardless of preference or origin. We look forward to your response.

To: The South Pacific Alliance, Greater Indonesia, and the Eco-Technate of Australia

I wish to address the people and governments of the South Pacific Alliance, the Eco-Technate of Australia, and Greater Indonesia. The world and solar community stand at a crossroads, and we believe it essential that we establish a common defense umbrella, under which an attack against one means an attack against all. If ratified, the group would operate under a common defense, military, and counterterrorism policy. To meet this end, the Union is prepared to deploy a battalion to each member-state, to serve as a bulwark against outside aggression and to supplement each individual nation’s defense system (though this remains optional). We hope to hear from your respective governments, and look forward to a future of shared prosperity, peace, and defense.

The Watchmen are deeply saddened by the attacks on Olympus Mons. We believe that Homo Homo Sapiens are entitled to the solar system. We prefer to stay neutral on the current tendencies of Mars, content with our little colony. But rest assured, if more terror attacks occur, we will gladly come to your aid.

On the other topic, we ask the LSF to give their reasons for many of the actions we've seen in the news. What is their agenda?
